Acrylamide, a white crystalline chemical material, is the raw material for producing polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide is mainly used in water purification, paper pulp processing, pipes inner coating and the polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Starch food at high temperature (>120℃) is prone to produce acrylamide. Research shows that acrylamide is accessible to human body through many ways, such as digestive tract, respiratory tract, skin mucous membrane and one of the most important ways is to drink water.
A survey on professionals involved in acrylamide and the group accidentally exposed to acrylamide shows that acrylamide is neurotoxic. However, there is no sufficient evidence to prove that the intake of acrylamide will lead to certain human tumor.
Material and Regents
Watsons water; 1000 ppm Acrylamide in methanol;
Cleanert ACA, 500mg/6mL (P/N：ACA5006);
Cleanert ACA 1000mg/6mL (P/N：ACA0006).
* The maximum loading volumes are 500 mL and 1000 mLrespectively for the two specifications.
Activation: add 5 mL methanol and 5 mL water accordingly;
Loading: load the water sample onto Cleanert ACA cartridge;
Washing: add 5 mL water;
Dry for 5 min;
Elution: add 10 mL methanol;
Evaporate to 200 mL under 40 °C nitrogen flow, make up to 1 mL with Watsons water. Vortex well and filter the extract through 0.22 mm PTFT membrane.
HPLC Column: Unisol C18，4.6mm × 250mm,5.0µm, 100Å（P/N：VA952505-0）
Mobile phase: A: Water; B: Methanol;
Detection: 210 nm;
Flow rate: 1.0 mL/min;
Column temperature: 30 °C;
Injection: 20 mL.

Results and Discussion
6-point calibration curve was plotted from 1 to 50 mg/mL. Take aforesaid extract for HPLC analysis, and apply internal standard methodology as quantitative method.

We developed an easy and efficient sample preparation procedure for the extraction of Acrylamide in drinking water. Solid phase extraction of Acrylamide from drinking water is shown with excellent recoveries and accuracy (RSD<5) using Cleanert ACA. This application demonstrated that Cleanert ACA can meet the demand of extraction of Acrylamide in drinking water.
