Experimental

Material and Reagents

Watsons water; HPLC purity of methanol and acetonitrile; analytical pure of sodium dihydrogen phosphate and phosphoric acid;

Standard solution of 12 antiseptics mix: provided by customer;

Hand sanitizer: bought from supermarket;

Blank sample: Transfer 1 g hand sanitizer into a 10 mL conical flask with cover, add 10 mL methanol and sonicate for 15 min, filter the extract through 0.45 mm filter;

Blend of blank sample and standard solution: Take 30 mL blank sample solution and 70 mL standard solution mixed respectively, mix well.

Instrumentation

Column: Unisol C18(2), 5 µm, 110 Å, 4.6 × 250 mm;

Mobile phase: A: acetonitrile; B: 0.05 mol/L of sodium dihydrogen phosphate (adjust the pH to 3.0 with phosphoric acid); C: methanol;

Detection: 254 nm;

Flow rate: 0.8 mL/min;

Column temperature: 35 °C;

Injection: 5 mL;

Results and Discussion

We developed a robust analytical method for quantifying 12 kinds of antiseptics in cosmetics. Excellent chromatographic separation was obtained using Unisol C18(2) for each analyte.

Conclusion

We developed a robust analytical method for quantifying 12 kinds of antiseptic in cosmetics. Excellent chromatographic separation was obtained using Unisol C18(2) for each analyte. The result described that two kinds of antiseptics were pinpointed in the hand sanitizer samples and there was no interference of matrix for the separation of antiseptics. Unisol C18(2) delivered robustness performance and thoroughly meet the demand of safety and regulatory testing.
